are they both functional? if only one, then thats what was on the car. should be the spoiler mounted third brake light. but 87 was a strange year, i wouldn't put it past GM if it was one of the first cars in 87 that it could have got a glass mounted light, then someone added the spoiler at the dealer.

dont forget the suspension aspect. thicker sway bars, and springs. Plus the TPI motors only came in irocs and Z28's and not as many RS' came with a POSI trac rear.

posi-traction, its when both back tires spin, instead of just one. if you do a burn out and you dont have to black lines down the road you don't have posi. as far as the exaust, just get something good, doesn't matter between turbo, and non turbo. slp has really good stuff especially their headers, ...

the 3800 is really great to turbo. you can beat an lt1 easy with a turbo set up and full exaust. but if you want a big turbo you'd want to put forged pistons in it and have the rest of the motor built to stand it. but first things first is full exaust, headers back and a posi set up.

if the belt is tight, and fluid is full, and power steering goes in and out, its ur pump. column doesnt have anything to do with your power steering. nothing about power steering is electrical. the only other thing it could be is your steering box getting worn, or trash in it.

you could hook up a light detector and touch it to the harness that plugs into the trunk pull down and make sure its getting power. then you know if its in the trunk motor assembly (which would mean, motor or switch) or before the assembly which could be a ground, switch, fuse or relay.

chances are its not in the fuel pump if its back firing. you can check the fuel pressure with a gauge to make sure. if you have over 100k miles i'd go ahead and replace the fuel pump anyway. but it sounds like you have a spark problem. opti-sparks go out on those as well. i've seen a computer or two...

the easiest way to find out the gear ratio is:
1) have some one turn the wheel one complete turn.
2) Count how many times your driveshaft turns
example: if nearly 3 and 3 quarter turns its probably a 3.73 or nearly 2 3/4 turns its a 2.77 rear.
as for the code i have no clues. hope that helps

true, it wont be the same as a v8, i ment you can do most of the same work to a V6 as a V8. but the parts might be a lil harder to find.

just to put it out there, those Ground effects aren't hand made, you can order them from a company for in the $500 dollar range, but the front clip is nasty looking in my opinion. they have them for firebirds too.

You can do just about anything to a V6 as u can a V8, just it requires more searching for your parts. you can get k&n Filters but i don't know about the intake. start off with simple things, Exaust, and Filters, then move to a machine shop and port the hell out of it, heads, intake, exaust ports...
