What kind of gas mileage could I expect to get out of an early 90's Z28? assuming I drive it in a manner that would allow for optimum mileage? on either the 305 or the 350 TPI engines

Thanks :)

Depends, mostly on whether a manual or auto.

16 mpg on a manual, eh? then what, maybe 13-15 mpg on an auto? Do things like aftermarket exhaust systems really improve mileage (so I hear)?

On my stock 305 carbed I can only push out 11mpg but it's usually round 9 the way I use it. With that said it you'll get a couple more miles with a manual and another few w/ tpi engines. If you drive it normally you're probably looking at around 18 for 305 and maybe 16 w/ 350, assuming manual.

A new exhaust will give you better mileage but I'm not exactly sure how much. But you don't buy catbacks for the mileage. You buy it for the power and sound.

I'm sure if you mod it up a bit w/ exhausts and stuff you could easily get 20 if you drive like my grandfather

Listen to the Bronx Bull though...

Almost forgot.

Gas effieciency also depends on your rear end and gears. You should check to make sure you have stock gears. Changing them will also change your gas rate and your cars acceleration / top speed.
