and looking at a 97 with a 5.7 liter engine. It does not have SS or Z28 badge it says F-1 on the back, sides and wheels (5 spoke) also has one exhaust on left side with dual ports not the dual exhaust that the Z28 or SS came with....what am I looking at? I have only seen pictures, have not seen the car. Is there anything on the Vin that will tell me what it is?

It is a F1 Option package on a Z28...
Basically it was a extra dealer option with parts listed below that you could either order the parts from the Chevy Dealer or Add the option when buying a Z28 to have the dealer install on the car...

All of the parts are discontinued now so there is no replacements..
But the upgrades put on the car are the following...

The Exhaust on it that you are seeing is referred to as a 2 Out The Left exhaust... All Stainless steel muffler, And 2 90 Degree Stainless steel tail pipes cut on an angle to resemble tips...'
It is a Great muffler, It is basically a 1 In /2 Out straight through muffler with no chambers in side of it, the only thing inside of it is the piping is perforated to quiet down the exhaust a little bit..
One of the best flowing Mufflers can get for these cars...
The Exhaust system was made and designed by SLP they used the same exhaust on 96,97 Camaro SS's, Firebird GT's and 96-2000 Pontiac FireHawks..
The only thing with the 2 out the left exhaust's is certain years, the EPA Mandated that GM quiet the exhaust down a little bit because it was loud at certain rpm's and during drive by test's ...
So certain years have a Silencer installed in one of the 2 tail pipes to quiet the exhaust down a little bit referred to as The Cone Of Silence..

All you need is a straightened coat hanger and stick it in both tail pipes to check and see if it has it..
If it doesnt cool the exhaust screams..
If it does have it No big deal it can be removed very easily..

Ins0mnia, you remember a while back that dude from the UK was taking delivery of his new "Z28" from Japan? It arrived and he was annoyed as it said F1 and not Z28. Once you explained what if was, he was rather pleased as he wasn't expecting it.

Then 2 weeks later, he crashed it and wrecked the spoiler and badges and stuff (which you can't buyt anywhere!). Haven't heard from him since!

That is a shame especially over on your side of the pond, That was probably the only F1 in the U.k... I Didn't know he wrecked it...

Those export tail lights fetch big money over here
