Where Did You Hear Of Camarosource.ca?: I am the Administrator :-)
We have a SERIOUS situation on hand right now.

We just received an email from our hosting provider threatening to shut us down as we have caused their server to crash twice already. We apparently used 120 Apache Processors recently.

We pay $8.95us / Month (2 year contract) with http://www.hostrocket.com and the ONLY solution they say is to move to a Semi-Dedicated ($65/MO) or Dedicated ($100us/mo) server. This is NOT an option.

I do NOT make profit from this website. This was a SMALL hobby over 4 years ago that has turned into a HUGE resource site with over 5000 members on the msgboard, and 2000+ daily hits.

I am at a complete loss of thought and to be honest, scared. There has GOT to be a solution to this. semi-decidate is NOT an option. At this rate, the website has no choice but to shut down. That is NOT an option in MY EYES but well.. I don't want to think it..

I NEED YOUR SUGGESTIONS. Does anyone here know of a hosting provider who :

- Will NOT have an issue with the size of this site
- Reliable
- GREAT UP TIME
- Cheap cost per month
- LEAST 1 GIG space (website is currently 800megs I actually should have at least 2 or 3 GIGS to be on the safe side
- LEAST 50 GIG's Bandwidth
- 12-15+ Databases
- Frontpage 2002 Extensions
- MYSQL
- CPanel Admistrator

camarosource, to be honest, i dont think your gonnna be able to kill 2 birds with one stone. you can only have one or the other not both, cheap or everything your asking. this is a big site, and is only getting bigger i dont think you will get away with paying 8$ a month for something this big. i will try and help you to find a host, with alot of bandwith/space for a low cost, but we all know we dont want this place to shut down.

Cannot rely on other people, that is the problem.

Same here. We can not lose this site. This is my home away from home. I wonder how some of the other sites do it? Sponsership? Ichecked out http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/, and it's massive!!!

Let's all put our heads together, there is a solution out there.

See guys, and gals..

The problem is there is no revenue made from running the site. I offered advertising on the site for $25/ YEAR with UNLIMITED Impressions and Click Thru's. hardly anyone took advantage of it. Not many website offer UNLIMITED anything for advertising. Now it's raised to $50us/year.. But again.... A website as big as this one would surely charge $100-$300 a year for advertising.

So the cost is paid by me. Donations go to the bills for running the site.

I pay $8.95us/mo with a 2 year contract = $214.80us / 2 years ($107.40us /year)

Those guys are making some pretty serious money to keep it up and running , sponsorship is about 125.00 per sponsor a month and they've upwards of 100 sponsors. Even with all that , keeping that site up and running is a nightmare. They've got pretty close to 60,000 registered users there. They do put a lot of the money back into the site and also sponsor a drag racing series. What I might suggest is two fold:
1. Aggressively seek sponsors
Price sponsorships in a fairly inexpensive manner, say 15.00 to 20.00 per month. You get just 5-10 sponsors you are ahead of the game.
2. Aggressively recruit new users and hold contests , giveaways , etc. The more users you atract , the more sponsors you attract.

I would even consider buying part ownership to help with the costs if interested. I make some pretty serious cash and could easily swing it .

That sucks man and I appreciate what you've done so far. I find this site to be immensely valuable. I myself would be willing to put up 100 bucks US, even though its more than I was planning to donate. Its quite possible that I've saved that much money in the information I've read here so far and maybe much more. If you can get 12 pledges for 100, or 24 for 50, 48 for 25 etc., all this would easily add up to enough money to host the site. Another option is implementing a small one time fee for registered users, say $5 or so. But if you want the site to remain 'free', you're going to have to collect revenue one way or another. So lets see if theres anyone else who has not yet donated or is feeling generous, volunteers?

You guys don't know how much all of this means to me. Not only because of the finacial support, but the thought that this website means so much to so many of you of absolutely overwhelming for me. I've always said everyone is welcomed and thought as family. And this just shows you that this really is not just a website, not just a resource site, but a home to so many people who care so much about each of us.

I am truely HONORED, and PROUD to be the administrator of this website, and I truely appreciate each and every one of you. Personally I have an account with 100's of websites and I've NEVER seen so much caring on one site than I do on here. Thank you very much for your thoughts, comments, support, and concern.

I just sent Paul a PM concerning this . I am willing to purchase 49% or the entire site and am quite flexible on the terms. Let me know what needs to be done.

Badjuju has some good ideas & since he's a mod over @ LS1tech too, he is probably right. I know other boards that survive just on donations, but they have lots of regulars who give to the board.

It was easy for me to donate last month, as I have credit cards; how do peeps donate if they don't have any plastice---is there a way to send you money orders/checks etc.? I don't think that some people realize that even $5-10 would help out. Which if only 1 or 2 people do this it wouldn't, but collectively it could be substantial.

I'm trying to get some more ideas, but till then let's all see what we can do to help Paul/CS out, so that it can remain up and running!
