Hey guys and gals....

Your buddy Camaro Q (that's me) hasn't posted in awhile but since Camaro season is almost open I have been taking a look through the board to see what I've missed. Anyways...

I would just like to say that I heard a rumour the 2009 is suppose to be made in Oshawa which is where I live...so instead of buying one I think I'll wait til one of the GM employees drives it to the storage lot and simply cut him off and save myself 50 grand or so...lol.

Cheers,
Q

I'm missing something here, guys. Help me understand this....

After all the problems GM had north of the border, why would they want to come back to Canada?

Why not grab the GTO production facilities, supply chain and delivery chain and go to work? Sure, it's Australia. But what the hey...

I'm listening... :D

Two possible reasons to manufacture in Canada are . . .

- Government subsidies

General Motors of Canada Ltd. will unveil today the largest investment in the history of the Canadian auto industry, as the federal and Ontario governments move closer to new deals with other auto makers that would further mark an investment turnaround in Canada's largest sector.

GM's $2.5-billion investment -- including about $400-million in financial assistance from governments -- in its Ontario facilities is the second major deal for the Canadian sector in the past six months.

The Canadian governments spend big bucks subsidizing the auto manufacturers to give them an edge to build in Canada.

- Quality & Efficiancy

On average, Canadian auto assembly plants are the most efficient in North America. According to the Harbour Report, Canadian operations are about 5 percent more productive than in the U.S., and 25 percent better than Mexico. GM's #1 car assembly plant in Oshawa is the most efficient assembly plant anywhere in North America, and its #2 plant is the fourth-most efficient on the continent. Its Oshawa truck assembly plant is the second-most efficient truck assembly plant anywhere in North America. Ford's St. Thomas assembly plant is the most efficient large car assembly plant on the continent. Canadian assembly operations have also received numerous quality awards.

So who knows. :)

Hard to beat a good government subsidy.
If it happens, I hope it works out better than last time.

Here's another spot that helps quantify your point.

Cool article. One thing articles like that tell me, is that if GM is at this point in discussing how and where to build the Camaro, then the chance it will be built must be almost 100%! :D

Whether it's built in the US or Canada (maybe even Mexico . . . maybe), I still call it a great American (North American?) muscle car.

I just hope they decide to build it. Then we can worry about where it is going to be built.

I had the opportunity to speak with a few of the GM execs at the Toronto Auto Show and they were very tight lipped over whether it would happen or not. They were still waiting to see the response from the various shows.

If it does get built it would be great to have it built here in Canada
