well i will update i am waiting on the cluster, everything else is ready to go, i have the dash mounted up all wiring done, i will just explain things i did in the last couple weeks.

i untaped the whole harness to go through the wiring, the defrost and trunk switch connectors end up being spliced into 1 little wiring harness which leads into the main harness. there are 4 wires for the trunk switch you only need 2, since the 4th gen trunk switch doesnt light up :D so you need the orange/black and white. The defrost on my 86 is run into a timer, i fed the wires all the way to the end of the passenger side and cut the timer right off. there are 6 wires going to the timer you need 4, the other 2 lead to the old connector for the defrost.

The cluster connector is all wired up, here is what i did:

4th Gen Connector 93-97 V6 & V8:

A1 - Pink - Power Feed From Gages Fuse 9
A2 - Purple - Fuel Gauge Signal
A3 - Grey - Security Indicator Lamp Control
A4 - Brown/White - *SES* Indicator Lamp Control
A5 - Pink - Power Feed From Gages Fuse 9
A6 - Yellow/Black - Low Coolant Level Indicator Control
A7 - Brown - *Air Bag* Indicator Control
A8 - Purple/White - *TCS OFF* Indicator Lamp Control
A10 - Tan/White - *Brake* Warning Indicator Lamp Control
A11 - Light Green - High Beam Headlights On
A12 - Yellow - Fasten Seat Belt Indicator Lamp Control
A13 - Orange - Power Feed From Courtesy Fuse 8
A14 - Red - Generator Output Indicator Control
A15 - Brown - Oil Level Sensor Signal
A16 - Dark Blue - *Low Traction* Indicator Lamp Control
A17 - Dark Green - Coolant Temperature Sensor Signal

B2 - Grey - I/P Illumination Lamps Feed
B3 - Black - Ground
B4 - White - *Skip Shift* Indicator Lamp Control
B5 - Dark Blue/White - Right Turn Signal Switch Output
B12 - Dark Green/White - Vehicle Speed Signal - 4000 Pulses Per Mile
B13 - White - Tachometer Signal
B14 - Light Blue/White - Left Turn Signal Switch Output
B15 - Black/White - Ground
B16 - Tan - Oil Pressure Indicator Control
B17 - Light Green - ABS Fail Signal

3rd Gen Connector 86-Pre Firebirds/Trans Ams:

A1 - Tan/White - Hand Brake
A2 - Black - Ground
A3 - Grey - Illumination
A4 - Grey - Not Used ?
A5 - Black/White - Ground
A6 - Pink/Black - 12v Power
A7 - Blue - Left Turn Signal
A8 - Green - High Beam Headlights On
A9 - Blue - Right Blinker
A10 - Pink - Fuel Gauge Signal
A12 - Brown x 2 - Not Used?
A13 - Yellow x 2 - *SES* Lamp Control
A14 - Tan/Black x 2 - Skip Shift Indicator

B1 - White - Tachometer
B2 - Black - Ground
B3 - Grey - Illumination
B4 - Blue - Choke Indicator
B5 - Green - Coolant Temperature Signal
B8 - Tan - Oil Pressure
B9 - Pink/Black - 12v Power
B12 - Black - Ground
B13 - Yellow - Fasten Seat Belt Indicator
B14 - Green/Black - Speedometer

Now obviously some of the wires on the 4th Gen connector will not used, for example.

ABS Fail Signal, Low Traction, Oil Level Sensor, Air Bag Indicator, Low Coolant, etc...

Soon as the new cluster comes in i will have some pics!

ok so my cluster came in today, only 99,000 miles which is sweet. I installed it into the dash, got the dash fitted on everything works, heater, lights, gauges, etc. The dash is dirty and still have wires hanging but that will be all fixed and cleaned by tomorrow :D

tiny update, replaced the complete rear compartment with black interior by yours truly Daz. I got a couple pics but its dirty and i still got the grey pieces hanging out, so they are all yours Daz :D I also installed the new hatch supports i have a pic of the trunk staying open on its own for the first time that i have ever owned this vehicle. i took pics without interior out and i must say it looks very clean.

ill get better pics when i complete the speaker wire, front carpet, and seats this week just wanted to throw an update that i finally got the trunk open and some work done

OBVIOUSLY THIS WORKS BECAUSE IT DOES FOR ME, DIFFERENT YEARS MAYBE HAVE DIFFERENT COLORS BUT IM PRETTY SURE THAT IS JUST FOR THE CLUSTER WIRING. here is help with your defrost hookup problems:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/body/ ... steup.html

Headlight/Parklight Switch
3rd gen trans am(86) to 4th gen trans am
RED-----------------------------------------RED
ORANGE-------------------------------------ORANGE
YELLOW(X2)---------------------------------YELLOW
BROWN--------------------------------------BROWN
GRAY----------------------------------------GRAY
BLACK---------------------------------------BLACK
WHITE---------------------------------------(have to put in wire...see note)

NOTE 1: The white wire's purpose is too have 12Volts when the headlights and parklights are turned off to drop the headlight motors. This doesn't exist in the 4th gen harness but you can add the wire. I'm trying to find a prong from another connector thats similar and stick the prong into the right slot. If you look at the 4th gen headlight connector like this:
_______________
|
|____|-----|____|
place the prong in the slot that is on the bottom, 2 from the right.

NOTE 2: You get the gray and black wire not from the 3rd gen headlight switch but from the connector that has the lightbulb that lights up your thirdgen headlight and dimmer switches.

DIMMER SWITCH
GREEN------BROWN
WHITE------GRAY
BROWN------GREEN/WHITE
BLACK-------BLACK

FOG LIGHT SWITCH
BLACK-----------BLACK
BROWN----------BROWN
BROWN/WHITE---YELLOW
PURPLE----------PURPLE
GRAY------------GRAY

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS IS FROM 86 T/A SO CAMARO IS DIFFERENT LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE AND ILL GIVE YOU INFO.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Connector 2(top connector)
1- Hand Brake Indicator - tan/white
2- Ground - black
3- Illumination - grey
4- dk grey - illumination?
5- black/white - ground
6- pink/black - 12v power
7- Left blinker - blue
8- Brights - green
9- Right Blinker - blue
10- Fuel Level - pink
11- Not Used
12- Not Used - brown x 2
13- Service Engine Soon light - yellow x 2
14- Skip Shift indicator - tan/black x 2

Connector 1(bottom)
1- Tach-------------------White
2- Ground-----------------Black
3- Illumination-------------Gray
4- Choke indicator---------Blue
5- Water temp------------Green
6- Not Used
7- Not Used
8- Oil pressure------------Tan
9- Power-----------------Pink/Black
10-Not Used
11-Not Used
12-Ground----------------Black
13- Seatbelt--------------Yellow
14- Speedometer----------Green/Black

---------------------------------------------------------------------
YOU CANNOT USED 98-02 LS1 TACHOMETER WITHOUT RUNNING INTO PROBLEM, FUEL/COOLANT TEMP/ETC RUN OFF COMPUTER THROUGH ONE WIRE, NEED 94-97 LT1 TACH AS THEY STILL USE SENDING UNITS, YOU CAN REPLACE LT1 GAUGES LITERALLY WITH LS1 THOUGH

This is the 4thgen airbox.
In the purple is how the big opeing looked originally. I cut this area to resemble the shape
of the 3rdgen air box. I lined the boxes up side by side on the ground and marked the 4thgen
bix where it needed to be cut to resemble the 3rdgen box. The tan line just shows that I
slightly grinded down that lip by about not even an 1/8"

The green box is how the opening looked before I closed it off a little. Again I just compared
the 2 boxes side by side on the ground. The 3rdgen opening in this area is not as wide so I
had to close it up a bit as you see on the left of the green box. I just used some scrap
plastic I cut off from the purple box and jb welded it to close the hole up a bit and then put
some duct tape over it to hold it while it dried. On the right side in the green box I had to
open this area up a little more and make a slant like the 3rdgen box has. I also cut out the
bottom where you see the blue line. (!!!!do not cut the lip of the opening below that though
in lite blue!!!!!) Just look at the 3rdgen box and you will see why. But when you do that just
seal up the corners (red dots)

The last opening wasn't as big as the thirdgens opening as you can see it stopped where you see
the yellow line. I had the cut the left side lips off and open it up a bit more, as much as I
could, but dont cut into the area with the orange x to much or you will go right thru to the back
of the box. Then I just used scrap plastic and jb welded new lips on to match the lips on the
3rdgen box ( in brown)

Basically I just kept comparing the 3rd and 4thegn boxes on the ground side by side. Then make
slight cuts and hold the 4thgen box to the firewall box and see how it matched up then cut more
if needed till it fit right. You will have to have someone hold the box in the car at the angle
and height it would be if mounted on the dash, then go around from everyangle you can to see how
its fitting then make more mods and repeat until you get it right. I got lucky and my first cuts
were just about perfect so IU had it fittin in about 20 minutes.

Its not going to fit 100% to the 3rdgen firewall heater box. There will still be small small
opeing that aren't perfectly sealed. I just used some foam from the back of an old underdash
panel and glued strips to the new 4thgen air box and it sealed it. I now have a tight fit and seal.

well after Daz (cant spell your real name lol) did some hard labour (taking out stripped seat bolts) and took away the old interior it was time to install the new carpet, 4th gen seat belts, and the rear 4th gen seats. I didnt get a chance to bolt down the rear seats im havin a hard time with the passenger side getting the bolt in, but it looks ok. The camera flashing makes the seats look alot lighter then they really are but all in all im happy, here are a few pics i forgot to install the panels, and door sills as well they are drying from a coat of black paint.

Painted, then installed a 94-97 automatic console. It's only a temp situation to make interior look nicer.
