All About The 2001 Camaro RS (SC w/ V6) [SLP]

Option No. Y3B identified the Camaro RS Package created by SLP Engineering for the 2001 V6 Camaro coupe. You could order this package by spending an additional $849 which was available for V6 equipped base coupe and t-top base coupe models (N/A with convertibles).

Standard features of the new RS package included a grille with a Chevrolet bow tie logo, one special interior plaque and three "RS" exterior badges and a dual outlet exhaust system with a high-performance muffler that added 5 hp and a more "throaty" exhaust note.

The RS was available on Arctic White, Light Pewter Metallic, Navy Blue Metallic, Onyx Black, Monterey Maroon Metallic, Sunset Orange Metallic, Mystic Teal Metallic and Bright Rally Red cars. The RS dual stripe package could be ordered in black for cars with exterior colors other than Navy Blue or Black or in silver with body colors other than Light Pewter or Sunset Orange.

You could not team the RS package with convertibles, the WU8 Camaro SS Package, the Z28 Special Performance package, the Y3F Camaro ground effects package, the Y87 performance enhancement package or the MM5 5-speed manual transmission in California or Florida. 6-speed manual not available.

Optional equipment for the Camaro RS included 16 x 8-in. SS-style wheels and a suspension package that used standard V8 front (32mm) and rear (19mm) anti-sway bars.

Because this was a feature only available on the Base Coupe only, the 5-spd manual w/ overdrive was standard. 4-speed automatic was optional. 6-speed manual not available.

2001 Camaro Model Year Facts

The Base Camaro convertible is discontinued in Canada; decontented Z28 model introduced.
Production of 29,009 Camaro's in 2001 was the lowest in Camaro history. Part of the reason was an early build-out to allow an early start up of 2002 production, the Camaro's 36th and final year.
Horsepower for the LSI engine (Z28 and B4C models) increased from 305hp to 310hp, and torque from 335 lb.-ft to 340 lb.-ft. Horsepower for the Camaro SS version of the LSI increased from 320hp to 325hp, and torque from 345 lb.-ft to 350 lb.-ft.
Code 71 Sunset Orange was a new 2001 exterior color, although 13 2000 models were also painted this hue. Sebring Silver Metallic (code 13) and Hugger Orange (code 99) were not available.
Newly styled 16-inch chrome wheels were introduced.
Interior and exterior appearance for 2001 was carried over from 2000.
